Life with Parker

I guess it's about time that I update my blog.  As, I'm sure you all know, we brought Parker, aka "Little P or P Baby" home Monday.  Since then things have been completely surreal. (In good ways.)

The first night I didn't sleep at all because I kept waking up at every little noise that Parker made.  She, on the other hand slept beautifully.  To make up for this, she refused to go back to sleep after her feedings the next night.  Since then, we have sort of been on a good night/bad night cycle.  I suppose that's normal.

I have gotten completely used to Alicia being home from work.  I'm quite nervous about her returning tomorrow.  I'm not sure that I am going to be able to get through the day without help. I am still getting up every 3 hours to pump (which of course does not line up with when Parker wants to eat) and will have to start doing most of the nightly stuff myself since Alicia will have to get up and actually function in the morning.  Plus, although I am feeling much better than I was a week ago, I still hurt.  I often find myself in positions (usually with the baby) that I can't maneuver out of.  It makes me nervous.

I am psychotically paranoid that Parker is sick or that something is wrong with her.  I would take her to the doctor every day if I could.  At least I have started being able to sleep and not check her breathing every few seconds.  (Maybe every few hours.)

Other than that, things are good.  Lots of lounging around in pajama pants and snuggling with P Baby.  What could be better than that?

I am so happy for you! She is just beautiful!

I was freaked out too, when Steve went back to work, but I realized I could manage. Don't worry about the cleaning house or anything right now... just take care of yourself and the baby and you'll do just great.

Awww I think that's all normal. I remember waking up in a panic the first time Hannah slept for 3 hours in a row. And the first time she slept 4 hours in a row. And 5. And 6. LOL It really does get better though. You'll gain some confidence in your "Mommy abilities" and you'll see that you can do this!

I don't think you'll ever stop checking their breathing, I did it just last week when Chris miraculously slept through a storm. Maybe when they're 20? But enjoy all the snuggles that you can get. So precious.

First of all, she's absolutely beautiful!

Secondly, I was always a mess when Stephen had to go back to work. But you can do it! Just remember that those first few weeks are all about survival. Concentrate of what Parker needs and what you need. Sleep when she sleeps. Housework and cooking can be done later. Don't feel bad about eating too much take-out during this time. It's all about adjusting. Things will come easier in time.

And as far as the breathing thing goes...I still check on my 3 1/2 year old every night. I don't think that will ever change. Welcome to Mommyhood!

Since we're only a week ahead of you in this process, not much is different here. We also seem to be on a good night - bad night cycle. Last night was a bad night. I rocked her for well over an hour and fed her for nearly 40 minutes in addition to that hour. She was not about to be comforted by me. I finally had to take her up to Adam because I had to pee so badly. He, graciously, took her downstairs and rocked her for about 20 minutes. She went right to sleep. What a stinker! But, at least we all got to go back to bed! :)
